What is The Houston 20?
The Houston 20 is a nonprofit organization made up of influential and committed individuals within the Houston community. Ericka Bagwell is proud to be a part of this organization, especially because its primary mission is the same as hers: to end sex trafficking and transform the lives of survivors of such cruelty. Working with both women and children, the organization works through the scope of issues and hardships faced by survivors. A social community movement, the initiative strives to make a difference not only through outreach, but also through their ability to shine a spotlight on this issue.
Ericka Bagwell and The Houston 20 volunteers work directly with women and children in the community who are working to overcome sex trafficking. This area of support is all-encompassing, but primarily involves offering emotional support and assisting individuals in the process of securing housing in women’s and children’s shelters.
#FightForUs
The Houston 20 is partnered with #FightForUs, a nonprofit organization that strives to end sex trafficking with a call to action. Sadly, the city of Houston is a hotspot for sex trafficking, which is why it has become a major issue in recent years. Horrifically, the average age of victims is only 13 years old; and there are more than 79,000 child victims of sex trafficking, in the Houston area. These statistics are absolutely heart-wrenching for Ericka Bagwell, and the compassionate members of her community who want to make a difference. She will not allow this horror to continue in her own backyard which is why she is passionate about partnering with the #FightForUs movement to shine a light on this issue and how everyone can support, empower and uplift these women and children.
